| The weekend of 17th/18th of October saw the annual ELR Autum Diesel Gala, but due to being in Yorkshire on the 17th, I was only able to attend the second and final day this time.
I'm not sure what it is about the ELR and me, but I seem to forever find myself taking pictures in either rain or dull and gloomy conditions whenever I'm over there, and yet again this was the case with this visit. Thankfully the rain never got above a mild drizzle, but almost from the word go the skies were overcast and the light very poor, which didn't make it easy when it came to shooting fast moving locomotives. Because of the wether, and the fact that I was on foot this time, I stayed mainly at the northern end of the line, and just concentrated my efforts on locations between Rawtenstall Station and Ewood Bridge, any further south and it starts to get into the 'dodge the orange blob' areas, where all the trespassers usually hang around and get into your shots! 
This collection shows a number of shots taken that day, and though most were of the 'home fleet', which I have already photographed many times, there was one visiting class 50, and some very nice combinations of double-headers and 'top and tails', and whatever anyone thinks about the ELR's recent steam problems, no one can deny that the Bury Diesel Group always put on really fine Diesel Events - well done lads, another excellent one, and thanks for all your hard work! |
