Any hopes I had of September not being quite as wet as August quickly faded on my first trip of the month, when the heavens really opened as I arrived at Rawtenstall Station, and looking at the forecast for the coming weekend, I can see that 'damp and gloomy' is going to be the theme yet again for this month's ELR Gallery - what a big surprise that is - where is this scorching summer that the BBC Weather Centre were promising us just a few months ago? 
Anyway, 2nd of September was the date of my first visit, and even though it was just for a couple of hours I did get a few shots of the 'Growler' 37418, which was on duty that day, and another good soaking as well. Good job It's a good job I like taking pictures in these sort of conditions. Second visit of the month was on Saturday 5th of September, and for the first part of the afternoon it was yet again 'traditional' East Lancashire weather, with low cloud and lots of rain, but thankfully it didn't last this time, and by 3pm the clouds hade cleared and we had blue skies and sunshine for the remainder of the day. Nice to see Jimmy the Jinty back in action, and some steam action on the ELR once again. My luck must be changing, visits on the 13th and 20th of September both saw fine weather for a change. Sunday 20th saw the Jinty and the WD double heading the dining train, these looked impressive in the sunshine, though I think they'd have looked even if they'd been tender to tender rather than nose to nose, steam locos always look so much better when they're running chimney first. Nice to see steam back on the ELR no matter which way round they're running though!
