With so many steam charters around at the moment, it's great to get the occasional opportunity to photograph some of them whilst they're on the move. This gallery contains a number of shots of some of them and these were taken on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th of August 2009.
On the friday morning, it was out early for a trip over to Mossley, which is near to Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester, and this was to catch sight of the ex LMS 'Princess Royal class' 6201 "Princess Elizabeth", who was taking the Scarborough Flyer from Crewe to the Yorkshire seaside resort, and the spot we chose to see it was on the section between Stockport and Huddersfield.
A number of extra shots of passing Class 185 DMUs at this location, plus a few shots of a pair of DMUs from nearby Greenfield Station, and some from the now long closed and disused "Delph Donkey" line nearby.
Saturday morning saw another steam charter, yet again with a LMS royal doing the pulling, and this time it was the turn of the Princess Coronation Class "Duchess of Sutherland" 6233, as she hauled the "The Cumbrian Mountain Express" from Crewe to Shap and Carlisle. This time she was seen as she whizzed through Clifton Railway Station, which is located just north of Salford in Greater Manchester, at around 9am.
Well at least that should explain the odd choice of name for this gallery anyway!
