In contrast to the gloom and dampness of the previous day, Saturday 4th of July started in near perfect conditions, as we headed off to Manchester's Victoria Station to catch the arrival of the 'The Coast to Coast Express', which was a charter involving former LMS Princess Royal Class No. 6201 'Princess Elizabeth', which was en-route from Liverpool to the Yorkshire coast town of Scarborough. The tour was operated by the Railway Touring Company, and during its brief stopover at Manchester, the nameplate 'Scarborough Flyer' was added to the smokebox of the loco.
What an impressive sight this grand old locomotive, which was built back in 1933, was as it approached the station in bright sunshine. Not wanting to waste such excellent conditions I have even included a few of the local DMUs in the gallery as well!
