| It was off to the Worth Valley on Friday 26th of June for Day One of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway's Summer Steam Gala, and as per usual there was a good selection of steam locos on display.
As with the Diesel Gala a few weeks earlier, the weather was fine and pleasant in the morning, but deteriorated a bit as the day went on, and by the late afternoon it was getting positively gloomy, and I was shooting at ISO1600 at times in my attempts to keep the moving locos in focus by 6pm. In spite of that though there was a nice lineup of locos, including one of the the star attractions, which was the visiting GCR class 8K 2-8-0 '63601', which is owned by the National Railway Museum, and currently on loan to the Great Central Railway. The other main attraction was 'Leaner' 5690, but this was mainly working shuttles between Keighley Station and Settle Junction, and after spending most of Saturday following this around, I have decided to put the pictures of this one in a separate gallery, which will include images of its Saturday evening trip over the world famous Ribblehead Viaduct (please check the index page for the link to this gallery when it appears very shortly). As well as the visitors though there were plenty of 'home' locos on display, and these were busy running various double headers and goods trains, and amongst the locos included this time were: 47279, 957, 90733, 85 and my favourite one for the event - 1704 'Nunlow' (first time I'd actually seen this one running). Always a good day out at the K&WVR, and I'm grateful to all their volunteers for the effort and time they put in to give us this enjoyable event, I just wish they would organise some better weather for the whole event the next time!
