Though not included in the official 2009 Timetable, Saturday 30th of May was classed as a 'Class 37 Theme Day', and featured the return to traffic of 37418. Also running were 37901 and 37109, and as well as 37901 and 37109 running as a double header, visitors were also treated to a very special sight with all three Growlers heading an extra service from Bury to Ramsbottom after the end of the normal timetable, and then returning back again with one loco at the front of the train, and two at the rear. As you can see from the large number of photographers waiting for this to arrive at Burrs, it proved to be very popular with diesel enthusiasts and photographers, who were treated to a fantastic sight in near perfect weather conditions for a change.
You might wonder why a steam loco is also featured here, but since this event wasn't advertised in the annual programme it was necessary to have at least one steam engine running, since many visitors may have come along just for that reason. Not that I'm complaining though, even the Jinty (47324) looked wonderful in that bright sunshine!
