| 29th of March saw another steam charter departing from Manchester's Victoria Station, this time it was the "Tin Bath Special" consisting of 76079 and 45407, where were pulling a long string of coaches on a round trip to Sheffield. This collection contains a number of images taken that day, showing the train's arrival, departure, and a few general shots of other locos using the station, and the engineering works taking place on the Metrolink line. Afterwards it was off to the Transport Museum for the Spring Bus Festival (see Bus Gallery for images of this), and then a trip over to the Museum of Science & Industry to get a few shots of some of the locos there (and a ride on 'Planet', the vintage replica), then the plan was to head back to Rochdale Station to catch the return of the "Tin Bath Special". Of course we'd forgotten that Murphy was around that day, and the special passed through Rochdale 12 minutes early, and whilst we were just approaching Castleton on one of Northern Rail's badly overcrowded cattle trucks. Some you win, some you lose, but it was still a very enjoyable day out in spite of that.
How different Manchester Victoria is from the days before the Arena was built in the early 90s, when standing at the end of Platforms 13 & 14 was always a great pleasure, the new concrete heavy platforms just don't look anything like as friendly, especially when the Sun is shining hard, and it feels like you are trying to take pictures down a dark tunnel. Well that's progress for you I guess!
